We traveled California's Pacific Highway One from San Francisco to the Mendocino Coast and back. Here's what I thought! Pros:It's gorgeous! Duh! Snuggled right up against to coast, this portion of the highway is so beautiful. You can see tremendous views of the ocean, huge rocks, and the waves crashing against them as you drive. (See the current header at the top of this page) The roads are windy and feel like a really fun adventure as you twist through for the first time. The ocean isn't your only good view. There's green, lush hillsides, cows roaming.. it's so beautiful. Check out this momma and baby cow we found! Cons: If you get car sick easily... you may not love it. If you're in a hurry, you may not love it. You can't get anywhere too fast with all of the bends, especially if you're not familiar with the curves. I can't imagine living there and needing to go places. Like... if you were retired, or work remotely, it would be great. Do your work at home, have nice property to relax at, and do outdoorsy things, hiking, kayaking etc and go into town now and again for groceries and the like. But if you're on the move, it seems like the novelty would wear off quickly. Correct me if I'm wrong!!! Still, it's absolutely gorgeous and you should try it when you visit California!! And if you can, you should rent a convertible in California. ;) It's the best. For real. Pick a Route!Visit California has a great site and some inspiration for road tripping Highway One that you should check out!
