After having a hankering for a lemon pound cake for a while, I snagged one from Aldi in my last Instacart order.
The Deutsche Kuche Lemon Poundcake from Aldi surprised me a bit because I didn’t realize it had a chocolate coating! Chocolate and Lemon is not a combination I can recall having before, but I was kind of into it. The chocolate taste and texture reminds me of a Swiss roll (or ho-ho) or even one of those Entenmann's chocolate frosted donuts, although I haven’t had either one in years.
The Deutsche Kuche Lemon Poundcake from Aldi Is quite a crumbly pound cake, although sufficiently moist. Between the chocolate coating and the crumbs I made a mess each time I opened the package. The packaging consisted of a tear open bag, with no resealing capabilities. But the cake did not rest on a cardboard tray or anything of the like. This contributed to the disaster of removing it from the package as the chocolate was sticking to the packaging. Packaging could definitely be improved upon, but I was pleasantly surprised at the cake and could see myself picking it up next year when they show up again. Still, I hope to make a homemade lemon pound cake soon. Nothing is as good as Homemade ;) Have you tried this pound cake? What did you think? Rating: *** 3/4 Stars - I’d get this again next year!
